Self Storage Tips
This is how storage used to be...
Let StorageLocations.com show you how easy storage can be today!
Self Storage is a convenient, safe, and inexpensive way to store your belongings. Proper planning will make for an efficient and cost effective storage experience. Are you going to need to access your storage building frequently? Think about location. If you plan or need to frequently use the storage space you will probably want something nearby, also a larger storage space may be more convenient than one packed to capacity. Others might opt for a smaller storage unit and pack it to the ceiling rather than to pay for space you’re not using. If even the smallest storage units are too much, look into mini-storage facilities: self-storage facilities that specialize in small loads. Be sure to ask facility representatives how and when you can access your unit.
To help make your self storage experience more pleasurable, Storage Locations have compiled the following 10 tips for packing your belongings before placing them in storage:
•Take into consideration the changes in the weather and what affect it will have on items of yours in storage. You might consider climate-controlled storage.
•When packing boxes fill them without making them too heavy to lift. Always put the heavier boxes on the bottom and the lighter ones on top of the heavier ones. This will prevent boxes from being crushed. Keep boxes off the floor.
•Disassemble items such as tables, bed frames, etc. (This will save space.) Wrap and label all pieces for an easier time when you have to reassemble them. Put all hard ware in bags and mark the bags accordingly.
•Label the boxes on all six sides and keep a list for easy reference. This will save you time if you have to look for something in particular.
•When wrapping collectibles or anything breakable, tape it after you wrap it. This should avoid mistaking them for excess paper to fill the box. Use bubble wrap or unprinted paper to wrap breakables. Group similar items together and mark the boxes accordingly.
•Wrap your mattresses in the special bags available at any hardware store. This will prevent them from absorbing moisture and from losing shape.
•To protect your items cover them with moving pads, sheets, or light blankets.
•Place some mothballs inside the boxes where you store your clothes.
•Make sure that all appliances are clean and dry before storing them. Leave appliances slightly ajar to prevent mildew.
•Purchase the insurance. If your belongings are worth storing, they are worth insuring.
